URGENT NEED FUNDRAISER image
May 7, 2023

On April 3, 2023, we announced that we were seeking the cure to a "Covid hangover" with an urgent fundraising goal of $25,000. We shared that the effects of the pandemic have lingered, and costs have gone up across the board, and that we needed some help to make our way toward the new season in September.

We are very happy to report that the response to our request has been overwhelming! More than $47,000 dollars has been donated, nearly twice as much as we were hoping for.  We are immensely grateful to each and every donor.

We decided to keep this fundraiser open through May 31st, 2023, as we originally planned.

FOLLOW THIS LINK TO MAKE A DONATION ONLINE NOW.

DONATIONS BY CHECK CAN BE MAILED TO 1370 Trancas Street PMB 228, Napa CA 94558.

We are a 501c3 non-profit organization and donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Look for news on our robust summer of shows and big fundraising event in August before the new season begins. Thank you!

"the great american trailer park musical" - 10th anniversary revival image

Break out your best Trailer Trash attire and get ready for the show the creators David Nehls and Betsy Kelso call “an all-American musical odyssey through agoraphobia, adultery, hysterical pregnancy, strippers, huffing, electric chairs, flan, roadkill, toll collecting, spray cheese, guns, and disco.” The gang from Stark, Florida’s ‘Armadillo Acres’ might be even more raunchy and hilarious 10 years later. It's sure to be Napa’s adult-oriented theatre event of the year.

"silent sky" image
April 21-May 7, 2023

When Henrietta Leavitt began work at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s, she wasn’t allowed to touch a telescope or express an original idea. Instead, she joined a group of female “computers,” charting the stars for a renowned astronomer who calculated projects in “girl hours” and had no time for the women’s probing theories. As Henrietta, in her free time, attempted to measure the light and distance of stars, she also took measure of her life on Earth, trying to balance her dedication to science with family obligations and the possibility of love. This true story of 19th-century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt was written by the Bay Area’s Lauren Gunderson, who has become America’s most produced playwright. It explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them.

"The Addams Family Musical"

September 8-24, 2023

Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family– a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before– keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents. THE ADDAMS FAMILY is a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family!

The Revolutionists

October 20-November 5, 2023

Four beautiful, badass women lose their heads in this irreverent, girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793 Paris. This grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots and chosen sisters, and how we actually go about changing the world. It’s a true story. Or total fiction. Or a play about a play. Or a raucous resurrection…that ends in a song and a scaffold.

"The Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical"

December 1-17, 2023

It’s holiday time down in Armadillo Acres (North Florida’s premier mobile-living community), and everyone’s filled with warmth and beer. But when a freak bout of amnesia strikes the trailer park Scrooge, neighborly love is put to the test. Be on hand as Betty, Lin, and Pickles jingle all the way with some new neighbors in an all-new, all-trailer-park musical! This companion to the original GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL is just as much of a cat-fightin’, sun-worshippin’, chair-throwin’ good time-—but with tinsel and Keg Nog.

"Saving Santa 2023"

December 2-23, 2023

What happens when Santa’s sleigh has a hard landing on Mt. St. Helena on Christmas Eve? Can a frantic elf get help from the people of Napa Valley to save Santa and save Christmas? “Saving Santa” features new original songs by Rob Broadhurst with a book by Barry Martin, inspired by a story idea from Taylor Bartolucci. This one-act show with a running time of around one hour premiered in December 2022 and returns for more music and laughs this Christmas season. We hope to see the theatre packed with kids and their families once again!

"Almost, Maine"

January 26-February 11, 2024

In the town of Almost, Maine, people experience the life-altering power of the human heart. In a series of playful and surreal experiences, relationships end, begin, or change beyond recognition, as strangers become friends, friends become lovers, and lovers turn into strangers.

"The Family Musical We Cannot Name Until July 2023"

March 8-24, 2024

Due to restrictions we cannot announce the title of this show until July, but we guarantee that it's a family musical that everyone will be excited to see at Lucky Penny!

"The Glass Menagerie"

April 19-May 5, 2024

No play in the modern theater captured the imagination and heart of the American public as did Tennessee Williams's "The Glass Menagerie" in 1944. The Wingfield family lives in a dingy, cramped apartment in St. Louis. Amanda Wingfield, her frustrated son Tom, and fragile daughter Laura inhabit a world where a visit from a gentleman caller seems to offer the only hope of redemption not just for Laura but for the whole family. This great play is mid-century American literature at its best.

"The Real Housewives of Napa Valley"

May 31-June 16, 2024

Five "real housewives" are living a famous life in the Napa Valley and beyond. Their reality show is a popular hit - or is it? When the Huzzah Network decides to cancel the show, they embark on a do or die mission to raise the ratings and hang onto their posh lifestyles. The new musical parody is the latest from the writing team of Barry Martin and Rob Broadhurst, creators of Lucky Penny's musical hits "A Napa Valley Christmas Carol" and "Saving Santa."

Strong belter with a hilariously dark sense of humor.

ALICE BEINECKE. Female identifying. 30s-50s. Vocal Range: Ab3 – G#5. Lucas’s mother and Mal’s wife, Alice is strongly devoted to her family. She presents herself as reserved and collected (even when speaking in rhyme) until she learns to unleash her wild side at dinner with the Addams. Strong comedic actress.

 “ALMOST, MAINE”

Written by John Cariani

Stage Direction by Kirstin Pieschke

Production Dates: January 26 – February 11, 2024

A woman carries her heart, broken into nineteen pieces, in a small paper bag. A man shrinks to half his former size, after losing hope in love. A couple keep the love they have given each other in large red bags, or compress the mass into the size of a diamond. These playful and surreal experiences are commonplace in the world of John Cariani’s Almost, Maine, where on one deeply cold and magical Midwinter Night, the citizens of Almost — not organized enough for a town, too populated for a wilderness — experience the life-altering power of the human heart. Relationships end, begin, or change beyond recognition, as strangers become friends, friends become lovers, and lovers turn into strangers. Propelled by the mystical energy of the aurora borealis and populated with characters who are humorous, plain-spoken, thoughtful, and sincere, Almost, Maine is a series of loosely connected tales about love, each with a compelling couple at its center, each with its own touch of sorcery. Rehearsals will begin approx. on January 2, 2024. Typical rehearsal schedule are Mon-Thurs evenings and Sat and Sun during the day when needed.

Our History image
Lucky Penny Productions was founded in Napa in 2009. Our first performances took place in the depot of the Napa Valley Wine Train in May of that year. A few months later we began producing shows in the Napa Valley Opera House and at Dreamweavers/Napa Valley Playhouse. Along the way we developed co-productions with 6th Street Playhouse in Santa Rosa and Spreckels Theatre Company in Rohnert Park. In January 2015 we opened the Lucky Penny Community Arts Center as the home for all our productions.
