"Beyond Therapy" is one of the great Christopher Durang's most produced plays. Long before he wrote "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike," winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, he penned a string of sensationally odd comedies in the 1980s and 1990s.
In this story, Bruce and Prudence are deeply into therapy. Prudence’s male therapist is urging her to be more assertive and place a personal ad, while Bruce’s female therapist wants him to meet women by placing a personal ad. When the two meet, they seem ill matched. Bruce doesn’t know how to handle poor nervous Prudence and Prudence doesn’t know what to make of her unpredictable and possibly insance new boyfriend. And then there's Bob to consider.
This delightful 1981 Off Broadway hit moved successfully to Broadway in 1982.
